Daryn Williams of Madgett’s Farm Poultry specialises in producing free-range poultry from his farm in the Wye Valley.

Daryn’s grandmother had always raised some geese and turkeys for Christmas, giving them to family and friends. Naturally, the birds were delicious and word spread. Gradually the numbers of birds raised each year grew, to the point that in 2001 Daryn and his wife Elaine decided to make a year round business of poultry.

Daryn and Elaine’s birds are reared and processed on their farm, all year round. They arrive on farm at weeks old in small batches and settle into their surroundings, in warm straw-bedded housing. Once fully feathered they are able to explore and roam freely across the fields but are brought in at night to protect them from foxes. Grown to full maturity, they have excellent taste and texture.

Not just a local secret, Madgett’s Farm have appeared on Rick Steins Food Heroes, Food for all Seasons with Matt Tebbutt and most recently with Matthew Fort on Market Kitchen on UKTV FOOD. They have also had numerous mentions from Guardian cookery correspondent, and regular customer, Matthew Fort.
